Until Nikolai meets elegant ballet dancer Rachel Cary at a wedding… Behind her. When one night isn't enough Six case studies explore the power of billionaires in their pursuit of security, wealth, and esteem.
The chapter on security analyzes Raj Rajaratnam's relationship to the Tamil cause in Sri Lanka, and Sheldon Adelson's transnational electioneering in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Regarding the economy, the book studies how the Koch brothers' political protection of fossil fuels is affecting climate change mitigation, and how Rupert Murdoch's opinion-shaping is valorizing conservatism across borders.
The chapter on social entrepreneurship and esteem examines the role of Bill Gates in the governance of global health and George Soros's attempts to build open societies as a 'stateless statesman'. An analytical conclusion evaluates the prior findings in order to address three major questions: Is it more appropriate to see billionaires as 'super-actors', or as a global 'super-class'?
What is the relative power of billionaires within the international system? What does the power of billionaires mean for the liberal norms of legitimate political order? Will she be able to confront her past demons without Will or Chase by her side? Will they end up better together… or apart? This serial novella is about 26, words, or about printed pages. Chris shook his head, trying to clear away the cobwebs that fogged his thinking.

Billionaire Without a Past is Nikolai Eristov's story and the 3rd book in Carol Marinelli's Irresistible Russian Tycoons Series of the lives of 4 men raised together in a Russian orphanage and how they meet up years later.
I liked them both a lot, but Nikolai's story was absolutely mind-blowing. It's a moving, dramatic, disturbing, poignant and touching story of how two damaged and broken people connect and change each other's lives for forever. Nikolai had such a tragic and dark past and hid his feelings to the world behind a mask of indifference. Rachel Cary, Libby's friend and ex ballet dancer, was the most unexpected heroine. She's older than the usual virginal twenty year olds she's in her early thirties, which I actually liked and she's certainly not virginal which I had no problem with.
She's quirky, sexy and not afraid to say what she feels and thinks She makes him realize that's he's a man of worth and that he deserves love and care in his life.
Rachel and Nikolai's story had depth and intensity and darkness too View all 6 comments. This is third in a series about four Russian orphans who lost track of each other and ended up being billionaires and HP heroes by This installment is about the hero who was thought to be dead — drowned in a river at age 14 after he ran away from the orphanage.
His body was never found, but a letter in his rucksack explained that he was running from a teacher who sexually abused him. Turns out view spoiler [ hero stowed away on a ship and learned all about ships from the captain.
He lives on a super yacht and is close to no one. Of course, the two orphans at the wedding recognize him and make him sit in the front pew with the heroine, a retired ballerina and friend of the heroine from book one. So a week is the time frame these two commitment-phones are looking at for a relationship. He has a sense that the heroine has a similar background because of her fear of the dark, being touched while she sleeps and her nonchalant reaction when hero told her his background.
Heroine is in love with the hero, but thinks of herself as damaged goods. Hero felt the same way until he was able to talk about it. I also enjoyed their romance. Heroine was fun and thoughtful. Their gifts to each other showed true understanding. The hero will wear a blindfold so heroine can sleep with the lights on, for example. Just a nice story. View all 11 comments. You all know I like HPs and I don't feel the need to pretend that they always or even often have great redeeming qualities. I can get behind some tiaras and tycoons, secret babies and blackmail just for the fun of it.
Still as a 70 year microcosm of women's fiction you can follow current sentiment on important issues through the stories of some of the greater efforts. This one is a clear example of that.
If romances in general Sometimes Carol Marinelli works in a big way for me and this was one. If romances in general serve to show and validate that all women are worthy of love then this story is a focus on yes, even a girl who had been sexually abused as a teenager was worthy of love.
Romances at their best also show that a woman can overcome difficulties and move on through her own power and self motivation. Sure this hero helped the heroine forgive herself for the past but she had already done most of the work herself.
He just gave her a final safe resting place. He was able to do that because he was a sexual abuse survivor himself. If that is not a clear example of romances in general and Harlequins in particular reflecting back social mores I don't know what is. Can you imagine this issue being raised so blatantly in an HP of 30 years ago?
These books as I have said before keep a finger on the pulse of important social issues. Abuse is an important topic that is getting more and more exposure and here it is in HP world. If there is some woman somewhere feeling bad about her past or even present and she can glean a little comfort from reading about another woman who made it through this book will have served a greater purpose than an hour's entertainment.
As entertainment though, for me, it succeeded quite well. I loved the quirky heroine who had no filter on her mouth. She just said what she thought, but not in a hurtful way. She just wouldn't let the hero hide in his comfort zone. Here again he needed her just as much as she needed him. There's another good message. The hero was a thoughtful man who grew to realize that he himself had more to offer than he had ever considered.
All around well written, well plotted with lovely use of the English language. View 1 comment. I wish this author wrote virginal heroines. Very emotional, dramatic, steamy and dark read and I couldn't put this down until I finished it!!
I love Carol's Russian men and am looking forward to the last book in this series. It does stand alone however, as the back story of the orphanage is explained as you go along. I can't believe all the 1 and 2 star reviews for this book!
One reader states she wishes the author wrote virgin heroines and gave it one star. One didn't like the ages 31 and 32 heroine is older That to me 4.
One didn't like the ages 31 and 32 heroine is older That to me is different. Both characters had dreadful abuse stories, which some people didn't like. Carol also twists her sentences a little differently than most authors, so you do have to concentrate when you read. Which I enjoy. I do appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and mine is a thumbs up for this book.
